Al Islaah is an initiative that was launched to facilitate reform, revival, and thoughtful reassessment after deep soul-searching and sincere introspection, with the aim of creating greater awareness around concerns relating to shirk, ghuluww, and sectarianism.

Alḥamdulillāh, the initiative was made possible through the dedication and commitment of the Al Islaah Admins, together with the support of sincere and forward-thinking members of our communities around the world.

Al Islaah admins have established online forums that provide scholars, researchers, and members of the general public—particularly those with a yearning for the original Islam promoted by the Prophet (Saww) and Ahlul Bayt (as)—with a space for open engagement, where logical and evidence-based answers, perspectives, and research can be discussed respectfully and thoughtfully without fear of ridicule, hostility, or dismissal for expressing differing views.

We have had thoughtful critical thinkers and deeply Qur’ānically-aware individuals within our communities for a very long time, but many remained scattered across different parts of the world without a common platform through which to communicate, discuss, or exchange ideas freely. As a result, many experienced a sense of isolation within their local communities, not realising that there were so many others around the world who shared similar concerns and aspirations MāshāAllāh, and that they collectively represented a much wider global community.

So it is heartwarming to see how Al Islaah has brought together many likeminded, thoughtful individuals and advocates of Allāh-Centricism and tawḥīd from within the school of Ahlul Bayt (as) onto a common platform where members can support, assist, and benefit one another in their shared journey towards Allah (SWT) and in striving for a good future in the hereafter InshāAllāh.

Al Islaah is still in its early stages and therefore welcomes support and cooperation from those who resonate with its aims. There is a general membership WhatsApp group as well as several smaller groups where ideas and perspectives regarding the way forward are discussed collaboratively.

If you are interested, we can request the admins to add you and any other family members you recommend to some of these groups so that you may have the opportunity to interact with other like-minded individuals and contribute your valuable insights and thoughts with the wider membership as well.

Alḥamdulillāh, there is a growing number of people within our communities who are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with highly sectarian, divisive, and anti-Qur’ānic rhetoric and forms of excessive personality-focused devotion that are becoming more prominent on some pulpits. Many are therefore seeking either a healthier alternative space or an opportunity to reconnect with the original school of Ahlul Bayt, which was never intended to function as an isolated sect, but rather as a principled Muslim community committed to upholding the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the dīn as transmitted by the Imāms of Ahlul Bayt.

The school of Ahlul Bayt (as) was always meant to remain an integral part of the wider Muslim Ummah, rooted in mutual respect, principled discourse, and commitment to the core teachings of Islam.

Al Islaah has launched a panel discussion programme called ISNAD where they invite likeminded people from all walks of life to share and articulate their revivalist and reform-oriented views, as well as other beneficial perspectives they feel are worth discussing, with the aim of inspiring others to reflect deeply on these matters and develop the confidence to initiate meaningful conversations within their own households and communities.

One thing that all Muslims can benefit from is cultivating the habit of reading and listening to a broad and diverse range of scholars, researchers, and speakers who are willing to engage critically with inherited paradigms and who place the pursuit of ḥaqq (truth) above sectarian partisanship. Al Islaah aspires to be one such platform.

Shīʿism, particularly within some expressions of the traditional Twelver strand, has in the view of many been significantly affected by elements of ghuluww. As such, while one of our primary focuses is to encourage Shīʿas to reconnect with what we understand to be the original beliefs of the Prophet (Saww), his family, and companions, we also seek to explore aspects of the early fiqh of the Imāms of Ahlul Bayt (as) and how it may have appeared before later sectarian influences shaped or narrowed parts of that tradition in ways that distanced it from broader mainstream Muslim practice.

The ultimate goal of Al Islaah is to help reconnect people with the belief and practice of the early Muslim community of Madīnah, which included the Prophet (Saww), his noble family (Ahlul Bayt), and his sincere companions and supporters from among the Muhājirīn and Anṣār.

In terms of long-term aspirations, Al Islaah hopes to cultivate strength, courage, balance, and resilience in future generations so that they are not swept away by currents of Imāmocentric ghuluww that many believe have increasingly influenced parts of the Shīʿa tradition.

Many feel that excessive Imāmocentricism has, in some circles, overshadowed an Allāh-focused spirituality within the Twelver Imāmī tradition.

There is concern among many that aspects of the tradition have, at times, become overly ritualistic and excessively centred on personalities at the expense of Allāh’s remembrance and centrality — something they believe the Imāms themselves would have strongly discouraged. Some observers see parallels between these developments and historical shifts that occurred in Christianity when emphasis moved from pure Theocentricism toward forms of Christ-centred devotion.
